Consumerism

Consumerism is the preoccupation of society with the acquisition of consumer goods. This tendency is generating lower prices on clothes which is a good thing for its buyers but a terrible one for those actually making it. Even though fast fashion companies are increasing their revenues, this isn't reflected on the factory workers' salaries which are more than miserable.

We buy clothing like its a disposable thing. We also want it now and as cheap as possible. This causes fashion brands such as H&M, Primark or Zara to pressure factories for lower prices or else they loose a very valuable customer.

We now should ask ourselves, is this all necessary? Do I need this amount of clothing? Could I help make a change?

The company Statista did a  survey in the US in 2017 about how often do people buy clothes for themselves.

Turns out 45% of the people in the US buy clothes at least each month.
